The Cyclists' Alliance would like to express its support to Amy and her family, in bringing her employment case in front of a Dutch court.
TCA is aware that UCI arbitration may not offer the best recourse, due to a lack of transparency and accountability and insufficient guarantees to the riders.
The employment status of riders is a key priority for the TCA and we are of the view that, in general, riders may be better protected by their national laws than by UCI regulation.
At this point, improvements in Amy’s recovery matter more than the outcome of the case, but we recognize that her brave approach will shine a light on a common issue in the peloton. Riders face tenuous employment conditions, yet at the same time commit their lives to the teams in what can be a very dangerous sport.
