The inspiration to create The Cyclists' Alliance started with our first survey. For the first time in our sport, we measured the issues professional women cyclists face and found they are universal; and that the only way to change our sport is to work together as a unified body of athletes.
Our second survey confirmed the depth of these issues, and strengthened our resolve to build an independent association to protect our collective interests for fairer contracts, equality of opportunity, healthier wages, impartial dispute resolution, and rider safety.
These surveys were sent to over 450 riders from every UCI-registered team in February and April, and we gathered almost 300 unique responses in total. The overwhelming message from the women racing today is clear: change needs to happen for the sport to grow, and the time for change is now.
