Webinar: Pelvic, Vulvar and Perineal Health for Female Elite Cyclists: December 2024

Doctor Olewinski will give an overview of pelvic/vulvar anatomy with a discussion of how urogenital overuse injuries occur. She will also cover known ways to reduce the risk of urogenital overuse injuries like pain, saddle sores, and soft tissue swelling and discuss what is not proven or known about this issue.

Professor Neels will explain how she work with cyclists as a pelvic health physio, offering practical advice and strategies e.g. how to avoid & treat scar tissue and swelling, how to work on pelvic floor muscle “balance” etc.

Doctor Olewinski will also provide an update on a survey conducted on pelvic, vulvar and perineal health for female elite and professional cyclists.

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) is a common occurrence in cycling, as riders often struggle to meet energy demands of training and competition. RED-S is triggered by a mismatch of energy intake and energy needs.

This webinar is with TCA partner Judith Haudum. Judith is a sport scientist and dietician who often consults with TCA members and other high performing athletes across many sports.

The current eating patterns in cycling continue to evolve, with an increased focus on weight and body composition. What is optimal for you is not necessarily the same for another rider!

This webinar will address the latest update of the RED-S consensus paper, examine eating patterns that influence the risk of RED-S in a positive or negative way, and provide an opportunity for you to learn how to optimize your own nutrition for high performance.

This webinar presents all the considerations required when deciding whether or not to work with a rider agent, and also discusses important points to consider regarding contracts. It features two guest speakers.

  • Annemiek van Vleuten will tell us why she chose to manage her own business. What were the advantages and disadvantages? At what point did she think a rider agent would have been useful?
  • Rider agent, Aschwin Kruders from AK Sportpromotions will explain what a rider agent is, and the kinds of tasks they manage on behalf of riders. He will answer the important question, does every rider need a rider agent?
  • This webinar also shares the role of TCA in assisting riders on this topic.

Luci is a Family Medicine trained Primary Care Sports Medicine doctor working in Knoxville, Tennessee with the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. She covers UT Rugby, One Knox Sporting Club (USL League 1 Soccer), Knoxville Ice Bears SPHL semi-professional hockey, and the 2019-2023 USA Cycling Road National Championships. She is a co-founder and member of the USA Cycling Medical Advisory Board and the team physician for USA Cyclocross.
